| David Petry, author of The Best Last Place, is a historian, author, and photographer. He started documenting the history of the Santa Barbara Cemetery in 1996, when the Cemetery board decided a recent oral history of long-time manager and board member, William H. N. Bryant, would not serve as a complete history. Mr. Petry traveled to hundreds of cemeteries in the United States and several overseas (or across international borders). He has been a resident of Santa Barbara since 1976. |
